Ramalde's House
A house in the heart of Ramalde, Porto, with worn, lifeless façades and cracking problems. Structures with poor thermal performance whose restoration and exterior painting would cost more than a new insulation system. The high level of condensation on the façades, fungus, mold and the advanced state of degradation of the substrate led us to opt for a complete and efficient solution: the ETICS system. A renovated façade with sustainable, highly durable materials.
Façade rehabilitation project and works
The ETICS system, an acronym for (External Thermal Insulation Composite System), commonly known as capoto, is a highly energy-efficient method of insulating walls and protecting buildings from the outside.
In this project, we were faced with façades without any type of thermal insulation, which caused great discomfort in the interiors all year round. Neuce's Neucetherm Cork system, made up of expanded cork agglomerate boards, was the best choice to solve this problem, as it stabilizes the ambient temperature inside the homes all year round, boosts comfort at a low cost, provides thermal and acoustic insulation and also ensures the building's durability by protecting it against atmospheric agents.
Due to the sustainable cork material, this system is highly resistant to high temperatures, slowing down combustion in the event of a fire, as well as being permeable to water vapor, which reduces condensation and prevents the formation of fungus and mold inside the home. The efficiency and durability of Neucetherm Cork, with no loss of characteristics over time, were key points in selecting this system.
In addition to applying the ETICS system, we also organized the space for collecting and sorting household waste using a galvanized sheet metal structure, with access from the inside and outside. The automatic gate and motion sensors were key to making the house more secure. In addition to waterproofing, the drainage of river water is very important, which is why the downpipes were replaced, maintaining the RAL color of the existing window frames.
