Pedro dos Frangos
With 60 years of history, Pedro dos Frangos is one of the oldest establishments in Porto. Recovering the roots of this iconic house in Invicta and preserving its identity included rehabilitating the façade and projecting a wall of memories, which tells the story of the restaurant through photographs, news and messages from customers.
Façade rehabilitation project, interiors and works
As this is a typical restaurant with counter service on the ground floor, the delimitation of seating and easy passage to the upper floors was essential, as the sloping counter was a hindrance to service. At the counter, it was decided to place high stools and direct lighting at each seat, through spotlights, to ensure the correct seating arrangement and facilitate service.
The wall in front of the counter was one of the main interventions, with the projection of a mural of photographs, news, messages and characteristic elements of Pedro dos Frangos, so that people could learn about the restaurant's history as they passed through this corridor. We chose to put up black frames of different sizes and decorative elements in self-adhesive vinyl and PVC, as well as high black wainscoting to make the space easier to clean and disinfect. All the decoration in shades of black and white is reminiscent of old photographs and memories that we wanted to preserve and present to our clients. As far as the lighting is concerned, we opted for a track of spotlights directed towards the wall, in order to highlight all the elements.
The restoration of the antechamber at the entrance and the façade of the building were also key to balancing the entire space, the latter having been rehabilitated by treating the stone and cracks in the walls, with the whole building subsequently painted. For the doors and windows, it was also decided to restore the wooden façade that existed at the beginning of the building's construction, in order to maintain the building's original features and eliminate the aluminum that was once placed on the façade.
