Aldoar Apartment
The kitchen is the heart of a house. In it we are creative, share experiences, pass on traditions and carry aromas and energies to the rest of the house. It is not only an emotional space but also a functional one, so maximizing every corner is a priority. In a traditional apartment in Aldoar, Porto, it was decided to combine the kitchen and living room to create an open-plan solution, giving the feeling that the space is bigger than it really is. Matching the interiors to the functionality of each room is a challenge, as the aim is always to create a light and harmonious transition, in a warm and inviting space.
Interior design and construction
In a small space, open-plan living is the right solution, as it allows the available area to be optimized and adapts to the new dynamics of people's conviviality and relaxation.
We chose to use a central island as a transition from the kitchen to the living room, gaining more space on the worktop for appliances and utensils, since the sink was recessed in this area. On the other hand, the island also functions as a storage structure all around, with doors and drawers, making it a favorable addition to the space.
In the kitchen furniture, as in most of the apartment, we opted for white lacquered wood and natural wood, in the kictchen island, giving it a greater sense of spaciousness and light. A wall of blue tiles was placed above the worktop, adding a different touch to the whole minimalist concept of the space. It was also essential to create pantry cupboards with optimized storage, in addition to the small pantry that already existed in the hallway.
As the apartment has only one bathroom, it was also necessary to optimize the space as much as possible, so the hanging cabinet enhances storage and adds a touch of elegance to the bathroom. In the bedrooms, the high aluminum windows were refurbished so as not to detract from the brightness of the spaces.
