O SPACE Architecture & Interior Design :: Serrana Pastry Shop

Serrana Pastry Shop

In 1953, the Serrana pastry shop was born, a discreet treasure in an emblematic building dating back more than a century in the city of Porto. Designed in an Art Nouveau style and bearing the Porto de Tradição seal, it is known for its acclaimed Berlin balls and holds a chest of historical and cultural memories. Giving a new life to the Serrana pastry shop, keeping the architecture and artistic style so characteristic and adding new elements to balance space and decoration was the biggest challenge.

Interior design, works and decoration

To preserve the classic and historic decoration of the space, with details such as a canvas by Acácio Lino on the ceiling and carved angels and a balcony with an iron railing that surrounds the upper floor, by José Oliveira Ferreira, it was decided to incorporate decorative pieces and vintage furniture restored to purpose.

Emerald green was the chosen tone for the walls, up to the height of the service desk, and some details, in order to balance the space and complement the golden and neutral tones of the ceiling and other elements.

We also chose to strategically highlight existing pieces, such as the Porto de Tradição plaque, the guest book and mentions and news about the pastry shop over the years in an organized set of tables. On the wall behind the counter, only the price list and the pastry's logo were placed, for a simple and balanced presentation.
