O SPACE Architecture & Interior Design :: Laundry Room Renovation

Laundry Room Renovation

When we arrived at this space, we were faced with a messy and disorganized area, but with an enormous potential. The floor had a fantastic old hydraulic mosaic with a geometric pattern, which would be kept, while the stone walls, although badly attacked by saltpeter and damp, once restored, would be truly magnificent and rustic. Here, it was necessary to create a piece of furniture capable of organizing all the tasks of a laundry room, maximizing the available space and ensuring that all the equipment was arranged efficiently. The aim was to provide comfort in daily use.

  • Project and Construction Execution

In addition to the washer and dryer, the project needed to integrate intelligent storage solutions, such as shelves, cupboards and baskets, which would allow to store not only cleaning products, but also utensils such as squeegees, brooms and buckets.

The space was designed according to individual needs and preferences, including specific features that suited the family's lifestyle and domestic activities. We placed a washing machine in the center of the unit and lined the inside of the walls with a small-format glossy white tile. We also tought of the importance of adequate ventilation to prevent the accumulation of damp and mold, with the door handles having openings in the MDF for greater air circulation, as well as safe electrical installations and well-lit spaces to prevent accidents.

Given that the space was a basement with damp problems and was intended to be used for washing and drying clothes, making it naturally damp, it was decided to use water-repellent MDF furniture. This was finished with a matt varnish, giving it a dark green hue.

The walls had to be treated with materials suited to their pathologies, both the exposed natural stone ones and the plastered ones.

After a meticulous renovation, the laundry room displays a charming retro style with touches of sophistication. The restored natural stone walls and antique hydraulic mosaic add vintage charm, resulting in a cozy space that combines past and contemporary.
